Community Support – So Much More Than Just Transport: What to Expect

Man assists wheelchair user onto an accessible van via ramp. Urban setting, trees and buildings in background. Mood is helpful and supportive.

When we talk about Community Access & Transport within the NDIS, many people think only of transport to appointments or activities. But this service goes far beyond that. Its core purpose is to promote inclusion and active participation of adults with disabilities in community life.

This type of support can include:

  1. Accompaniment to social and cultural events

  2. Support for sporting or leisure activities

  3. Access to educational and personal development programmes

  4. Exploring interests and hobbies with dedicated assistance

Transport is only one part of the equation. What truly matters is ensuring the participant feels confident and safe engaging with the world around them. Sunshine Family Support provides individualised support, with skilled professionals who encourage social engagement while respecting each person’s pace, preferences, and goals.

Engaging in the community boosts self-esteem, enhances social skills, and strengthens independence. That’s why our community access services are designed to go far beyond transport – they are a gateway to a richer, more connected life.
